1.AN EDUCATION POWERHOUSE IN THE MEDITERRANEAN
Cyprus spends more than 7% of its GDP on education, making it the third-highest spender in the European Union. The per capita number of adults holding university degrees is also among the highest in the EU (54.6% in Cyprus in 2015 compared to the 38.7% EU average).
Over the past decade, Cyprus has taken huge steps towards enriching local higher education, while managing to keep university tuition fees low. The result is an affordable university experience with small class sizes and a sturdy roster of undergraduate and graduate programs that can rival any offered in the rest of Europe.
With 5 accredited English-speaking universities and over 26 international primary and secondary private schools, Cyprus is a place where both local and foreign investors can feel confident that their children will get a stellar international education.
2.WHAT TO EXPECT AT UNIVERSITY
Most university classes start at the beginning of October (fall semester) or in February (spring semester). Tuition for private universities varies by course load and program, but fees generally range between €3,500 and €8,000 yearly. The three state-run universities—the University of Cyprus, the Open University and Cyprus University of Technology—are free.
All major universities and colleges have their own dormitories. The monthly fees for accommodation come out to about €150.
Due to Cyprus’ huge investment in higher education, the island has become a magnet for foreign students, who make up one third of the total university population in Cyprus. Several international colleges and universities in Cyprus even offer dual degree programs, fully accredited by their UK or USA partner universities.
There are several attractive options for MBA studies in Cyprus that offer good value for money. The fact that an MBA from a Cypriot business school can easily lead to a career in the island’s booming business sector is an even better incentive to study on the island. To apply for an MBA program in Cyprus students need: English fluency, a bachelor’s degree, and two years’ work experience in their chosen fields.
4.PRIMARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION
If you’re bringing your children to Cyprus, there are plenty of international educational opportunities, as Cyprus boasts 26 private pre-primary, primary and secondary schools, most offering tuition in English and some offering French and Russian tuition.
Alternatively, the public school system offers Greek-speaking pre-primary education for children between the ages of 3 and 6, and primary and secondary education for children 6-18.
Cyprus offers several world-class international educational opportunities, but navigating the system can be time-consuming and complex, especially if you’re coming from abroad. We can help. We’ll take care of the paperwork and phone calls, so that you can focus on what counts: your child’s education.
